  • Syd Horne VE3EGO wants to make a donation of his KLM KT-34XA HF Tri-band antenna to QARC. Anyone interested?

  • Field Day update: See FIELD DAY NOTES below.
    - Bill VA3WOW is to contact Leanne Latter, Emergency Planning Coordinator Hastings County Emergency Services.

  • ARES News: Bill VA3WOW referenced the Hilly 100 and dog sled races that ARES members have provided communications for and how they are good training sessions. The Frontenac ARES group recently provided communications for the Rideau Lakes Bicycle Tour that went from Ottawa to Kingston, riders stayed at Queens overnight then rode back to Ottawa in less than perfect weather. For the purpose of training the ARES group called the exercise Mass Evacuation. He read an email from the group listing the problems that came up and how they handled them.

  • Tim reminded members of the Heart & Stroke Event Sunday July 11 (NEW DATE!!) in the morning. This is the Sunday of Waterfront Weekend, but they plan to be finished by 12 noon. They are introducing a 10k run as well as the 2k and 4k walk. Anyone available to help with communications is asked to contact Tim ve3uo@rac.ca.

  • We have received our new UHF Repeater Controller: The total cost $430 Cdn to get it here. (UPS killed us!!)

  • NEW BUSINESS:
    • RAC is going to start a Membership Drive on Field Day, it will run until Field Day next year. Their goal is to gain 1000 new members. The Executive will discuss if QARC should get involved in some fashion. Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

    • Eric VE3GSI has submitted a letter of resignation from the Club to Tim VE3UO.

  • After club business we had our break with coffee and birthday cake for Al Taylor VE3WV - 95 Years young! We sang Happy Birthday to Al, he cut the cake, Mike VE3OX handed cake out to everyone. Thanks Mike.

  • The door prize was an LED flashlight, donated by Joe VA3JAD. It was won by Ian VE3EP.

  • The 50/50 draw was won by Miles VE3XDX, $27.50

  • After the break Eric VA3EP gave his presentation on Green Power for the radio shack and even your home. Have a look through his website: www.va3ep.net/. He suggested we have a look at http://tinyurl.com/2fs6n37 to see videos of how wind generators can fail. The fins on the big wind generators create a 10 HZ pressure area that can affect the inner ear of some people and when bats fly near the fins their lungs can explode due to the lower pressure.

The presentation was over at 9:25, the meeting adjourned but some members stayed and talked about the presentation and asked Eric questions.

  • The next meeting at Loyalist College will be on September 15.
